This biography from the Archives of AskART:
From Kralove, Czechoslovakia, Boza Hessova, known in America as Beatrice Hess, became a portrait and landscape painter, and early in her career was a muralist and commercial designer.  She studied at the Prague Art Academy, and emigrated to America in 1913 from Paris.  She worked for several years in Chicago at Marshall Field Department Store and also painted murals for nearby churches.

In 1928, she moved to Los Angeles where she became a member of the Painters & Sculptors of LA and exhibited with them in 1937.  From 1948 to 1963, she was on the staff of the Marine Museum in San Pedro.
