This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following is from Gerald Sauer of Carmel, California:

Carl Heilborn was a landscape artist and set designer for the movie industry. He was born in Oregon, received his art and architecture training from the University of Oregon 1926-1930 and advanced art training at the Chouinard School of Art in Los Angeles in 1931. He studied modern art movements of Europe and was much influenced by fauvism and particularly by Vlaminck when he traveled to Holland and France in 1938. From 1935 to 1949 he did set sketches for 20th Century Fox and Universal Studios.

He was a member of the California Watercolor Society and exhibited at Gumps, Stendahl Gallery of Los Angeles, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Riverside Museum of Art New York, and a Memorial Art Exhibit at the Los Angeles City Hall in 1962. One month before his death from a heart attack at age 48, he held a retrospective exhibit of his own work at a unique three story exhibition gallery he designed and built in Los Angeles in 1950 where he sponsored the works of young and unknown artists on an international scale.
