This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Carol Hutchinson (1932 -)

A native of San Francisco, she received her art education at the University of California at Berkeley in both the Art and Architecture Departments, studying under such instructors as Loran, Ruvolo and Obato.  Her work was included in a four year traveling exhibit from the Architecture Department to campuses throughout the country.  In the 60's and 70's she exhibited in San Francisco at The Little Gallery on Union St. as well as Godfrey Gallery at the Mark Hopkins Hotel, Ruth Carlson's Gallery in Mendocino, and the Little Picture Gallery in Carmel.

During these years she entered competitive shows, winning awards at De Young Museum, De Saisset Museum, the San Francisco Hall of Flowers Show, and several Society of Western Artists Shows.

In the late 70's she joined Americana Gallery in Carmel where she showed exclusively for the next 18 years.  In the 90's she started doing portraiture of family groupings in personal settings and has continued doing this by commission.  Additionally she has currently started a series of lake reflections to be exhibited next year.

Starting as an Abstract Expressionist and becoming a photo realist by the 70's, Hutchinson's work has continued to change over the years.  But her bright use of color and concentration on a light and shadow composition has prevailed regardless of the image she creates.

For the past 20 years she has also served as a juror for competitive art shows.
