Born in San Francisco into a prominent family, Catherine Hittell was a painter who studied at the School of Design with Virgil Williams after graduating from the University of California at Berkeley in 1882. She also became a strong conservationist, focused on preserving the Calaveras Big Trees.
Catherine Hittell was raised in the family mansion at 808 Turk Streetand lived there her entire life. For many years, it was a gathering place for prominent citizens of San Francisco. Her father, (showing 500 of 969 characters). |
