A landscape and marine artist, engraver and lithographer, Charles Holloway was born at Christchurch, Hampshire, England on May 10, 1838, the son of Charles Holloway, a stained-glass window producer. He studied at Leigh's Academy, and worked with Frederick Walker, Charles Green and Sir J.D. Linton at Leigh's Studio in Newman Street, London.
