| Born in San Jose, CA on Dec. 17, 1874. Hamlin was raised in Santa Cruz and later lived in Oakland for many years. While there, he studied at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute. Returning to Santa Cruz in 1914, he remained there until his death on Aug. 12, 1946. He was a professional musician-composer, an amateur watercolorist, and father of artist Edith Hamlin.
