This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following, submitted October 2005, is from Yvonne C. Haymes, daughter of the artist.

Born in 1928 in Buffalo, New York, Charles Haymes began his art career in high school.  He has worked as an art instructor, illustrator and graphic artist throughout his career.  In 1951, he went to work for Bell Aerospace as an artist-illustrator, ultimately rising to the position of Graphics Manager.  His industrial building paintings are done in oils, but he no longer works with these images.  Most of them were done in the 50's and 60's.

He has received numerous awards in juried exhibitions throughout the United States.  Seven of his paintings are on permanent loan to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA.) These images are from trips to watch the space shuttle launches, which he traveled to as part of his job.

In addition, he designed a memorial sculpture dedicated to the seven astronauts who perished in the Challenger Shuttle.  This memorial is installed on the grounds of the NASA facility in New Orleans, Louisiana.

He has since retired from Martin Marietta Michoud (Lockheed Martin) in New Orleans, Louisiana, and moved to Bedford, Texas in the Fort Worth-Dallas area.  He has enjoyed his retirement while creating other worlds, cosmic spacespaces, celestial star systems and unknown galaxies.  His "Astro Art" paintings combine science fiction and fantasy to stir your imagination about the mysteries of our universe and galaxies beyond.

Working in gouache creating small colorful pieces, he has also painted many portraits of famous people along with images from their lives for a private collector.

Mr Haymes is married to his wife, Lynn, of 54 years and they have 2 children.  He is still actively painting in 2005.
