| Born in Los Angeles, CA on Oct. 13, 1913. Artistically inclined at an early age, Herin began drawing as a child. At age 16 he went to sea and witnessed the last days of the tall ships. While serving in the Merchant Marine during the 1930s, he began taking art courses by mail and in 1939 attended Otis Art Institute. He also studied privately with his neighbor Wm C. McDermitt. During WWII he commanded armed merchant ships in the Pacific and Atlantic war zones. After retiring from the sea in (showing 500 of 733 characters). |
