This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Clifton Thomas Holmquist was born in 1968 in Lincoln, Nebraska to parents who were both artists and musicians. His father played the piano and sketched garden scenes, while his mother painted expressive abstract works, played the piano, guitar and percussion instruments.

Holmquist's art career began in elementary school, where he made use of crayons, construction paper, textiles, and clay. Holmquist began his collegiate career at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He continued with his artistic pursuits at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, working with several mediums such as clay, oil, and photography.

He moved to Canada and Alaska in his twenties to continue his art studies in photography and painting using the Alaskan wilderness and natives as his primary influence. He also uses pen and ink as a primary medium.

Holmquist uses a realistic style influenced by fantasy. His paintings and photographs are displayed at local fairs and art festivals. He is commissioned by corporations and individuals to capture special Alaskan moments. It is his passion to show the world the pure beauty of this great northwestern state.

Written and submitted November 2004 by Janet G. Smith, art historian, art authenticator and independent curator.
