Note to AskART, February 2005, from Larry Tenney:

"It is generally recognized that Daisy Marguerite Hughes lived in California but also spent a significant amount of time in Provincetown, MA. My uncle was her neighbor in the Park La Brea area of Los Angeles in the 1950s & 60s. I recently discovered this reference to her work which apparently still hangs in the library of John Burroughs Middle School located in the historic Hancock Park area of Los Angeles. The notation suggests that she also taught art at that same school."

'In the late 1940s, two memorable acquisitions were made, starting with the school's purchase of a painting entitled Cape Cod by art teacher Daisy Hughes. A set of autographed first edition books by John Burroughs was also presented to the school by a woman who asked to remain anonymous. The painting and the books still remain in the school library.'
