This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| A brother of Chester, Horace and Spencer Harding, Dexter Harding made his money as a miller but painted family portraits in watercolor in primitive style and also worked as a sign painter and decorator. In the war of 1812, he was a drummer boy, and likely joined his brothers in the West in 1818.
From 1821 to 1850, he lived in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and from 1850, until he died in 1862, he lived in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
