This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Don Hildreth was born and raised in Los Angeles.  From a young age he dreamed of being a scientist or engineer.  Both of his parent died when Hildreth was a teenager; he worked to put himself through UCLA and earned an engineering degree.

After ten years in the defense industry, Hildreth changed careers and began working in real estate buying houses and apartment buildings to fix up and re-sell.  Still restless, Hildreth took up tennis and pursued the sport vigorously but once again he felt he needed something more.

In 1991, the artist began taking art classes at Glendale Community College in California.  He took workshops from painters such as Ted Goerschner, Kim English, Scott Christensen, and Ramon Kelley.

After years of hard work and devotion to painting Hildreth found professional recognition.  In 1996, one of Hildreth's paintings won a spot in the Top 200 of the Art for the Parks competition.  In 2001 his work was juried into the Oil Painters of America's national show.  In 1994 Hildreth became a artist member of the California Art Club.
