| | Born in Yakima, WA on March 27, 1911. Hewes graduated from the University of Washington. During the 1930s through 1948 she appears to have maintained residences in both Yakima and Los Angeles. She studied in the latter at the Art Center School and in Paris. At the time of her demise in Yakima on Sept. 23, 1994, her married name was Irons.
