Edward Handley-Read was a very accomplished British portrait and
landscape painter. Born in the London area in 1870, he studied at the
Kensington and Westminster schools of art and at the Royal Academy
School where he won the Creswick Prize for his works. In 1895 he
became a member of the Royal Society of British Artists.
Handley-Read
grew up in a romantic and exciting time, when the British Empire was at
