| | Born in Madisonville, TX on Nov. 5, 1896. Elah Hale came to San Francisco in 1913. After graduating from Lowell High School, she earned degrees in art and architecture at UC Berkeley in 1920 and an M.A. degree in 1932. At that school she met professor of architecture, William Hays, whom she wed in 1921. She ran the sculpture department at the CCAC until her retirement in 1973. She died in Anacortes, WA on Sept. 18, 1986. She won many awards during her career. Member: SF Women Artists.
