Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
A painter and sculptor, born in Ogden, Ohio on September 23, 1860, Eli Harvey studied at the Cincinnati Academy of Art under Thomas Noble and Louis Rebisso, and in Paris at the Academies Julian and Delecluse under Jules Lefebvre, Benjamin Constant, and Henri Doucet.  At the Jardin des Plantes, he studied animal sculpture under Fremet.

Returning to the U.S. at the turn of the century, he worked in New York City until the late 1920s when he moved to Alhambra, California.  Harvey built a home and studio in Alhambra and lived there until his death on Feb. 10, 1957.  Best known as a sculptor of animals, he also painted.

Member: National Sculpture Society; Architectural League of New York; American Art Association of Paris; American Federation of Art; Allied Artists of America; Société National des Beaux Arts (Paris); Laguna Beach Art Association.

Paris Salon, 1894; Paris-Province Exhibition, 1900 (gold medal); American Art Association of Paris, 1900 (prize); Pan-American Expo (Buffalo), 1901 (bronze medal); Louisiana Purchase Expo (St Louis), 1904 (bronze medal); Panama Pacific Internation Exposition, 1915 (bronze medal); Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 1930.
