| Ella (Nellie) C. Hopps Howard was born in San Francisco, CA on Dec. 6, 1855. "Nellie" Hopps was artistically inclined at an early age and one of the first pupils to enroll when the local School of Design opened in 1874. After receiving a well-rounded art training under Virgil Williams, she established a studio at 728 Montgomery Street and was active with the San Francisco Art Ass'n. For a few years she was romantically involved and a sketching partner of Julian Rix. Following her marriage to B. (showing 500 of 1269 characters). |
