Ernst Huber (Vienna,1895-1960)

He served an apprenticeship as a typesetter from 1910-14 at the Genossenschafts-Buchdruckerei (Vienna Cooperative Book Printers) under the direction of Otto Prutscher.  During this time he attended evening classes for ornamental drawing at the Vienna School of Applied Arts.

Huber received an invitation from Josef Hoffmann to contribute to the 1920 Vienna Kunstschau, an annual national display of art – upon the recommendation of the sculptor Gustinus Ambrosi. The prestige of exhibiting alongside such established painters as Herbert Boeckl, Anton Faistauer, Oskar Kokoschka, Anton Kolig and Franz Wiegele was very important to Huber's early career.  During the 1920's and 30's Huber established himself as one of Austria's most important landscape artists. He traveled all over southern Europe, North Africa, South America using mostly watercolor to record his adventures.  Huber became a member and regular annual contributor of Vienna Secession beginning in 1928 and was awarded the title of full professor in 1949.

Works by Ernst Huber are held by the Galerie Belvedere, the Leopold Museum and the Graphische Sammlung Albertina in Vienna, as well as by the Oberösterreichisches Landesmuseum in Linz.
