Creating richly colored botanic still lifes and landscapes, Fran Hardy works in egg tempera and oil, a method she first saw at the Frick Museum in New York City in a painting, "St. Francis in the Garden" by Giovanni Bellini. She was fascinated by the depth and quality of light that the technique produced.
For her, a typical painting can take several months to complete. She first does the drawing with white chalk on a prepared panel and then applies India ink to the dark areas before addin (showing 500 of 1009 characters). |
