| Born in Placer County, CA on Oct. 21, 1859. Happersburger was raised and educated in San Francisco. Early in life he developed a talent for drawing and was apprenticed to lithographers as a woodcarver. He studied art in Munich for eight years at the Royal Academy under Knable and Eberle. While there, he received the commission for the Garfield monument which he completed in Munich. It was unveiled in 1885 when he returned to San Francisco. He then was kept busy with the Lick monument and (showing 500 of 885 characters). |
