Born in San Francisco, CA on Jan. 24, 1913. Harris pursued a musical career until 1929 when he switched to art and entered the CSFA for a three-year study period. After the College of Marin, he obtained a Ph.D. from Stanford University. He taught at San Francisco State College (1935), SFMA (1937-39), Stanford (1944-46), CCAC (1946-47), and Alcatraz Penitentiary (1947-49). In 1950 he was commissioned to paint a 27-foot long mural entitled, A Century of Progress in San Francisco at the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce at 333 Pine Street. Another of his murals can be seen at the Woodland (CA) Post Office. From 1957-68 he taught at Notre Dame College in Belmont and at Emanuel College in Boston (1968-70). He then moved to England where he continued teaching at New England College in Sussex until 1978. In 1980 Harris moved to southern France where he painted until his demise on Sept. 25, 1991.
