A painter of landscapes and figures, George Edwards Hering was the 4th son and 5th child of Charles Ernest Christian Hering (ca.1775-1813/1817) of German origin.  His father was the famous bookbinder of London 34 St. Martins Street and bookbinder to King George III.

He was born February 11, 1805 at Westminster, and baptized at St Martin in the Fields on May 19, 1805 (his parents had about 11 children of whom 10 survived).

Siblings:
Charles Price Hering (1798-), bookbinder 9 Newman Street, later 137 Regent Street (Hering & Remington); Robert Frederick Hering (1800-1869), architect; William Hering (1803-1876), MD surgeon, homeopath, surgeon to the Prince of Wales (who became George IV); Henry Hering (abt 1814-1893) bookbinder, portrait painter and photographer (Florence Nightingale, Bethlem Hospital), official Photographer to Queen Victoria

1851 census: age 45 landscape artist
1861 census: age 56 landscape artist, 45 Grove End Road, Maylebone
1871 census: age 63, landscape paiter, 45 Grove End Road, Maylebone
1879 late died age 74, Marylebone
1841 member of the Phrenological Association, London

He adopted Marion Jean Hamilton, the illegimate daughter of the Duke of Hamiliton, commonly known as Jeannie Hering (1846-1928) the famous authoress who married John Adams-Acton, the famous sculptor.
