Born in Tottenham, England, George Harvey is considered by many critics
to be the earliest flower-specialist painter in America. He first
visited the United States in 1820 and traveled in Ohio, Michigan and
Canada before returning to New York City and Boston. His
specialty was watercolor, and he did a number of large floral still
lifes.
By 1829, Harvey had completed about 400 portrait
miniatures and also did delicate watercolor landscapes. For the
remainder of hi (showing 500 of 1058 characters). |
