|  Known for his landscapes of Cape Ann, Massachusetts, George Harvey was born in Gloucester and was the son of Thomas Harvey, a well-known sea captain. From an early age, he showed art talent and a strong interest in the landscape and marine subjects around him. He married Martha Hale Rogers, a photographer, who encouraged his talents. He studied art in Holland and was influenced by the Hague School of painting. |
