This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Gus Heinze was born in Bremen, Germany on February 1, 1926.  During 1947-50 Heinze studied at the School of Visual Arts and Art Students League in New York City.  During the 1950s and 1960s he worked as a freelance commercial artist on Madison Avenue.  In 1970 he began his career as a photo realist painter in Bondville, Vermont.  In 1978 he moved to Marin County, California and began painting more diverse subjects, done in a style which he calls abstract realism.   He continues to live there today and is still active as an artist.
