| Gus Heinze was born in Bremen, Germany on February 1, 1926. During 1947-50 Heinze studied at the School of Visual Arts and Art Students League in New York City. During the 1950s and 1960s he worked as a freelance commercial artist on Madison Avenue. In 1970 he began his career as a photo realist painter in Bondville, Vermont. In 1978 he moved to Marin County, California and began painting more diverse subjects, done in a style which he calls abstract realism. He continues to live there today and is still active as an artist.
