The following is from Lloyd Moore, whose source is a jacket of a book about the artist.

Harlan Hubbard (1900-1988) was a writer, artist, and modern-day Thoreau. He is best known for his books of his travels in a shantyboat down the Ohio and Mississipi Rivers and the self-sufficient life he and his wife Anna, lived for more than forty years on a homestead they carved out an Ohio River bank.  

He created paintings, murals, watercolors, and line drawings.  Some of his finest work in found in woodblock prints he produced throughout his life.

Harlan Hubbard was an author of several books and an artist.  He and his wife, Anna, lived in the backwoods of Kentucky on the Kentucky River like pioneers.  There is a museum of his work in Covington, Kentucky.
