| A longtime artist, Heiner Hertling has German heritage with a work
ethic that initially inhibited his desire to become a painter and
sculptor and to focus on something more practical---commercial
art. He did a three year apprenticeship in Hamburg, Germany and
then came to the United States in 1965. For 20 years in Michigan
he had a business of automotive advertising, which he dissolved in the
1980s when computer graphics were taking over. From that time, he
