This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Henry George Hine (b.1811 / d.1895)

On August 15, 1811 Henry George Hine was born in Brighton.

Copying the work of A.V. Copley Fielding, Hine was self taught.  After some years of painting Hine became an apprentice in London with the engraver, Henry Meyer.

Hine spent two years in Rouen and was employed drawing for Punch from 1841 to 1844.  He later drew for other rival publishing companies such as the Illustrated London News.

Despite exhibiting his landscapes beginning 1830, it was not until 1863 Hine was elected an Associate of the New Watercolor Society.  From 1888 until his death, Hine served as the Vice President of the society.

On March 16, 1895, Hine died in Hampstead.
