| Watercolor landscape painter and lithographer, Henry Hitchings was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He contributed to M.J. Whipple's "New England Scenery from Nature" published in 1852. During the 1850s-60s, he exhibited his watercolors widely, including the American Art-Union, National Academy of Design, Boston Art Club, and the Boston Athenaeum. He was a professor of drawing at the U.S. Naval Academy from 1861-69. In the 1870s he became a teacher of drawing in the Boston public schools and slowl (showing 500 of 754 characters). |
