Born in Newton, MA on Feb. 26, 1869. Hopkins was a descendant of Stephen Hopkins, one of the pilgrim fathers who landed at Plymouth Rock on the Mayflower. He studied at the Massachusetts Normal School and then taught at the Pratt Institute in NYC (1889-96), Boston Art Institute, and in public schools of Baltimore and Boston. He further studied in Europe during 16 trips abroad. In 1927 he moved to the Monterey Peninsula where he was a resident of Pacific Grove and a founder of the Carmel Art Ass'n. A popular member of the local art colony, he died in Pacific Grove at his home at 331 Lighthouse Avenue on Nov. 11, 1931. His works are rare.
