This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Providence, Rhode Island on Sept. 1, 1897, Jimmy Hatlo moved to California with his family as an infant.  He quit high school to go to work in the composing room of the Los Angeles Times, and five years later became a cartoonist there.

From there he moved to San Francisco and worked for the Bulletin and Call while studying at the California School of Fine Art.

His “They’ll Do It Every Time” and “Little Iodine” were syndicated by Hearst’s King Features and made him one of the highest paid cartoonists in the U.S.

He died at his home in Pebble Beach, CA on Nov. 30, 1963.

He was a member of the Carmel Art Association.
