Jan Harrison was born on December 18, 1944, in West Palm Beach, Florida, the daughter of a railroad telegraph dispatcher and a legal secretary. Having previously lived in Georgia, the Mojave Desert, Northern California, and then in Ohio for thirteen years, in 1989 she moved to Ulster County, New York.
