The following biographical information has been provided by the artist, Janet N. Heaton, September 2013. 
Native Floridian, Janet N. Heaton was born in Miami, Florida in 1936 and is presently living in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Beginning her career in 1976, Heaton had no formal training in the arts but studied with very fine painters over the years.

Mammals and birds have always been the dominate subjects that she paints.
Professional Organization and memberships:
    Signature member Society of Animal Artists
    Signature member Pastel Society of America
    Signature member Florida Watercolor Society
She has been active with the John D. MacArthur Beach State Park as Board Member, Art Consultant and Curator of five Natural Selections art exhibitions and Consultant and Curator of Exhibitions for Banking Corporations.  She was chair of the opening of Disney World's Animal Kingdom for the Society of Animal Artist Annual Exhibition.
Heaton travels extensively to develop reference for the animals depicted in her work. She will never paint an animal she has not seen in its natural habitat. 

Heaton works in three mediums: oil, pastel and watercolor.

Her work is represented in the permanent collections at Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin; Worrell Collection in Charlottesville, VA; and State House in Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa.

Heaton is listed in:
Who's Who in America, Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in American Art, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in the World and was nominated for the Florida Artist Hall of Fame.
