This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Jean Leason-Hitch began her art career in Melbourne, Australia, where she studied commercial design and painting at the Parahan Technical Art School.  Under the tutelage of her father, Percy Leason, a well-known supporter of the tonality tradition, she was schooled in the elementary principals of the tonal technique advanced by artist Max Meldrum.

Arriving in New York in 1937, Leason-Hitch continued her career doing odd jobs in commercial studios.  In 1943 she was appointed Curator of Art at the Staten Island Institute of Arts and Sciences.  Here she revitalized the art program and developed a community interest in exhibition programs related the arts.  Her painting skills were called upon to create diorama backgrounds of special exhibits, and she was also called upon to restore paintings in the collection that had long been neglected.

Jean moved to Yarmouthport, Cape Cod, Massachusetts with her artist husband, Robert Hitch in 1973.  Since then she has been an active member of the Cape Cod Art Association, exhibiting, and giving demonstration, lectures.
