This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Conceptual artist Jim Hodges of New York City is a sculptor of creative interactive environments. One of his largest pieces is "Look and See", a stainless steel on-site work May 5 to October 30, 2005 for the plaza of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Battery Park City in Lower Manhattan. This stainless-steel work weighs nine tons, is S shaped and painted black and includes characteristic references of Hodges to camouflage, broken mirrors and cutouts. Visitors can see their reflections in the steel, which is part of the symbolism of the sculpture's theme of the blending of man-made architecture and landscape.

Jim Hodges was born in Spokane, Washington in 1957. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, in 1980, from Fort Wright College, in Spokane, and a Master of Fine Arts degree, in 1986, from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York.

Institutions granting Hodges awards include, in 1992, the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, of the National Endowment for the Arts; in 1994, Penny McCall Foundation; 1995, Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation; 1999, Washington State Arts Commission; 2000, Artist-in-Residence, California College of Arts and Crafts, Capp Street Project, Oakland; and in 2001, the Albert Ucross Prize.

Hodges work may be found in the collections of California institutions including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; Guggenheim Museum, New York City; Dallas Museum of Fine Art, Texas; Miami Art Museum, Florida; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, Illinois; and Kempner Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, Missouri.
