| A portrait, still life and ornamental painter, John Hagny lived in
Newark, New Jersey and was active in the mid to late 19th
Century. Among his portraits are those of Governor William
Pennington (1796-1862) and Chief Justice Edward W. Whelpley
(1818-1864). Hagny also did bountiful still life painting, but
they are rare.
