This biography from the Archives of AskART:
John Hubley was born in Marlette, WI on May 21, 1914. Hubley studied at the Art Center School in Los Angeles. From 1934-41 he worked for Disney Studios, first as a cel painter and later as art director of such films as Pinocchio, Bambi, and the Rite of Spring segment of Fantasia. Following service in WWII, he was a director at UPA until 1953. He then formed his own company called Storyboard which he operated until his demise at Yale-New Haven Hospital on Feb. 21, 1977. During his career he was nominated eleven times for an Academy Award and won three.

Exh: Painters & Sculptors of LA, 1936; Albertson Bookshop (LA), 1938; Coronet Theater (LA), 1938; Animation Art Festival (LA), 1951.

Murals: Whittier High School; Pomona College.
