The following is from Ann Trusty:

Primarily devoted to landscape painting in oil and watercolor in a representational style, John Hulsey is known as a contemporary Hudson River School painter. He works both en plein air and in his studio.

He has had extensive experience as a painting instructor: Arts Partners, Young Audiences of Kansas City, 1990 - 1994; State University of New York, Westchester Art Workshop, White Plains, New York, 1991 - 1993; John Hulsey Watercolor Workshops, 1989 - Present.

Hulsey has also taught watercolor classes: "Sketching the Picturesque", Edith C. Blum Art Institute, Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, 1988.
Artist-in-Residence, watercolor classes and lectures to faculty, Mahopac High School, Mahopac, New York, 1987. Garrison Art Center, Garrison, New York, 1986.

Hulsey attended the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas, Fine Arts Department, 1973 - 1976, and the Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, Missouri, 1971 - 1972. He lived and maintained a studio for ten years in Garrison, New York and today his studio is in Lawrence, Kansas.
