I grew up knowing him!
He was from Germany. I think he came to the US just before WWII. As far as I can recall, he never became a citizen, however, he also vowed to stay out of the politics of WWII.
He used to have an annual art show at his farm near Echo Lake, just outside of Johnsonville. I bought one of his charoals of "Podgee", the dog. His dog came to our house all the time and I'd take her home.
