Biography from Zigler Museum:
Julien Hudson was a miniaturist and teacher who studied under A. Meucci in New Orleans and briefly in Paris.

He is known to have worked in New Orleans during the 1830's, and may have been the first black artist in the South and the second in the country after Joshua Johnston (1765-1830), the earliest known black artist in the United States.
