Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
| Painter. Born in Platteville, WI on Oct. 13, 1854. Hayes was a mining engineer until retiring in 1926. He then settled in Laguna Beach and took up painting. He was self-taught and specialized in marines and landscapes. He died in Laguna Beach, CA on Dec. 4, 1946. South Coast News, July 1947; DR.
