This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following, submitted January 2005, is from James Black, collector of work by the artist who has also done research on Leo Henkora, a social realist painter.

"Information I have obtained from newspaper clip files indicates Henkora also painted murals at the Burleigh County Courthouse at Bismarck, N.D.  In his early career, he was a student of prominent Minnesota painter Cameron Booth.  Various news clippings from the Minneapolis Tribune and the Minneapolis Journal indicate Henkora had a summer professorship at the University of Missouri in 1927, that he exhibited his woodcuts in Philadelphia and at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1929.  Another clipping indicates he was director of his own "Henkora School of Art" in Minneapolis that was in its 6th year of existence in 1932.

Unfortunately, there is still a mystery surrounding the whereabouts of Henkora after about 1934."

The following was submitted by Flory Ornstein in March of 2006:

According do his death certificate, Leo Henkora died in Pendleton, Oregon on July 15, 1954 from carcinoma of the esophagus and terminal broncho-pneumonia.  He was survived by his wife, Sarah O. Henkora, a Pendleton weather woman with the Weather Bureau. She died on December 5, 1954 as the result of an auto accident.

A woodcut titled  Labor can be seen at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. This work had been given by the artist to his student, Dorothy Miller, the mother of Ms. Ornstein, who made the donation.
