Born in New York City, Letitia Hart became a noted portrait-figure painter. She came from a family of painters. Her father and uncle were James McDougal Hart and William Hart; her mother, Maria Theresa Gorsuch Hart; aunt, Julia Hart Beers; and sister, Mary Theresa, were also painters.
Hart studied with her father and at the National Academy of Design with Edgar Ward. She had an extensive exhibition record at the National Academy of Design, showing work from 1885 to 1914. Between 1895 and (showing 500 of 794 characters). |
