LEWIS E. HERZOG
Herzog was born in Philadelphia on 15 October 1868. His father Hermann Herzog (1831-1932) was also a painter, originally from Bremen, Germany and known for his mountain landscapes. Lewis studied and traveled in London, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Munich, Rome, and Venice. A sketchbook labeled "Düsseldorf" dated 1888 and another inscribed "1890," with scenes of Venice, verify these travels, and in 1893, he won an Honorable Mention at the International Art Exhib (showing 500 of 1710 characters).
