This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in St Louis, MO on Jan. 14, 1873. Hobart was educated at UC Berkeley, the American Academy in Rome and Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. Following his academic training, he settled in San Francisco and established an architecture practice in 1906. He designed and built some of the City's most impressive edifices, including Grace Cathedral, Bohemian Club, Steinhart Aquarium, and in Monterey, the Del Monte Lodge. During the 1930s he was elected president of the San Francisco Art Commission and a member of the architectural commission for the GGIE. As well as a prominent architect, he was also a fine amateur painter. Hobart died in San Francisco on Oct. 20, 1954. He was the husband of artist Mabel Deming. Member: Bohemian Club; AIA.
