The following was provided to AskART by Jan Perez:

"Louis Hasselbusch was my great-uncle by marriage. He was married to my grandfather's sister Minnie Holtzhauser. They had no children.

Following is an article published in the "Philadelphia Inquirer" following his death."

Painter Leaves His Works to Students

Hasselbusch Personal Estate Inventoried at $110,000

Many of the paintings and sketches of Louis Hasselbusch, widely known portrait painter, are left to "worthy art students" of the Philadelphia Sketch Club under the terms of his will, filed yesterday for probate.

Mr. Hasselbusch, who lived at 1009 Lindley Avenue, left a personal estate of $110,000 and real estate worth $6000. He died in his 76th year, March 27, last.

The will provided numerous bequests to relatives and to fraternal organizations. In addition to the "pictures, sketches and studio effects," the Philadelphia Sketch Club will receive $500 for refreshments at annual meetings as a memorial to old and deceased members.

Three of Mr. Hasselbusch's outstanding paintings are bequeathed to Melita Lodge, No. 295, F. & A.M.; $250 is left to Pennsylvania Lodge, No. 39, Knights of Pythias; $500 to the Masonic Home of Pennsylvania, and $350 to Germantown Hospital.

Mr. Adam Gimbel.

Louis Hasselbusch was born in Philadelphia and was a student at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and also studied in Paris with Jules Lefebvre and Benjamin Constant and at in Germany at the Royal Academy in Munich.
