This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Oklahoma on Aug. 22, 1893, Louis Hughes, by the 1920s had settled in San Francisco and for many years worked as a caricaturist for the Chronicle.  He made many painting excursions into northern California with Louis Siegriest, Maurice Logan and Willard Cox, his cousin, in search of subject matter.

Hughes died at the Veterans Home in Yountville, CA on May 19, 1973.

Exh: Palo Alto Art Club, 1920s; Santa Cruz Art League, 1934; Golden Gate Internation Expositon, 1939; Oakland Art Gallery, 1940-42.

Works held in public places: Oakland Museum; east wing of the Vatican, Rome (St Marys Church ).
