| | Born in St Paul, MN in 1872. Louis was the son and business successor of James J. Hill, one of the great railroad builders of America. The younger Hill was also a competent landscape painter. Primarily a resident of St Paul, he also had a mansion in Pebble Beach, CA where he often spent winters. His oil of Carmel Mission won third prize at the Minneapolis Institute of Art in 1930. He died in his native city in 1948. | Source:
