Lydia Maria Brewster Hubbard was born on a farm in Cornwall, CT on February15, 1849.  Lydia married Rollin M. Hubbard in 1869 and lived with him in Toledo, Ohio until returning to Connecticut in 1897.  Although the mother of eight children, she studied at the Art Students League in New York City.  She was active in the New Haven art scene at the turn of the century.  During her later years she spent winters in Laguna Beach.  She died in Los Angeles on July 14, 1911.  Her forte was floral still lifes.

Lydia Mariah Brewster Hubbard (1849-1911) was an early member of the still-existent New Haven Paint and Clay Club. She exhibited in the club's charter show in 1900. She was also part of the Laguna Beach, California art circle, spending part of each of her later years in that famous artists' colony. She studied with James Moser and exhibited still life and flower paintings in New Haven at the turn of the 19th and early 20th century.

Mrs. Hubbard was born Lydia Brewster in Cornwall, CT, moved to Ohio in her twenties, back to Connecticut in 1897, and made annual trips to California until she died in Los Angeles in 1911.
