This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Mark Hayden is a Copley Master who among his many awards has received the very prestigious Schroeder Award for Excellence in Portraiture. Through the Copley Society, Hayden has exhibited frequently, including master shows at the Harvard Club of Boston and St. Botolph's Club. He was featured in an article by contributing editor and author Charles Movalli for American Artist Magazine (July 1994 ), and is also represented in The Artists of New England. A native of Bradford, Massachusetts, Mark Hayden began his earnest study of art in 1979 by attending Montseratt School of Visual Art, in Beverly, Massachusetts. He continued his studies at the Art Students League with David Leffel, followed by an extensive association with master artist, Daniel E. Greene, N.A., and locally with renowned artist, George Augusta.

Hayden has conducted workshops sponsored by the Copley Society and the Haverhill Art Association; and in 1996 co-taught a workshop with George Augusta at the Essex Art Center, in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He has taught on-going classes at the Essex Art Center since it's inception in 1993. He has also taught portrait classes at the Worcester Museum and an Artist in Residence course in Virginia Beach, VA.
